In January 2012 a settlement of up to $36,881,250 has been negotiated, depending on the number of approved claims and includes payments to provincial health insurers, payments towards legal costs, and payments for notice and claims administration. If you, or someone you know, were prescribed, purchased or used Vioxx and wishes to join this class action, please please sign up for our class action using our simple "Do I Have a Case?" sign up form.Vioxx was a popular pain relief drug that was designed and manufactured by Merck. The drug is known as a COX-2 inhibitor and was developed for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Vioxx was approved by the FDA in 1999.
In March of 2000, a VIGOR trial showed signs that Vioxx increased the risk of serious cardiovascular problems. After further studies Vioxx received a revised label that warned patients of the increased cardiovascular risk. After more studies, Vioxx was finally pulled from the market in September of 2004.
Since this time, several Vioxx lawsuits have been filed throughout North America. Many of the Vioxx personal injury claims alleged that taking Vioxx had caused cardiac arrest and death.
In addition to the hundreds of individual lawsuits, multiple Vioxx class action suits were also launched against Merck in Canada and the US. Docken & Company is currently working with other lawyers across Canada to pursue a class action on behalf of all Canadians who were harmed as a result of taking Vioxx. Class action claims affect your rights. We are currently representing a number of people who have taken Vioxx. If you have suffered health problems as a result of taking Vioxx, please contact the law firm of Docken & Company immediately.
